The Sri Lanka cricketers who fared below expectation in South Africa, where they lost the two Test series 0-2 will be determine to bounce back, when they confront England in the first test at the Galle International Cricket Stadium on a spin friendly pitch.

The Sri Lankan batting line up will be bolstered by the return of the experienced duo of Angelo Mathews (Missed the whole SA tour) and Dinesh Chandimal (Who missed the second Test).

In addition the seasoned opening pair of skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Janith Perera, Lankan batting lineup will be followed by Lahiru Thirimanne, Niroshan Dickwella (wk), all rounders Dasun Shanaka, Dilruwan Perera, and Wanindu Hasaranga.

The England bowling attack will be spearheaded by the experienced fast bowling duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad who have claimed a total of 1114 wickets together. The Englishmen will miss the services of the fiery Jofra Archer, prolific all rounder Ben Stokes and their two front line spinners leg spinner Adel Rashid and off spinner Moeen Ali, which will considerably weaken their bowling attack.

With the regular fast bowlers Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Kumar and Kasun Rajitha being sidelined due to injury, left arm fast bowler Vishwa Fernando or right arm fast bowler Asitha Fernando is likely to open the attack with right arm medium pacie Dasun Shanaka.

Sri Lanka’s spin trio of off spinner Dilruwan Perera, right arm leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga and left arm leg spinner Lasith Embuldeniya are likely to torment the Englishmen at the Galle turf, which has been a happy hunting ground for the Sri Lankan spinners during the last decade.

The ICC Chief Match Referee and former Sri Lanka test captain Ranjan Madugalle will have the rare honour of officiating in a Test match involving his home country.

International umpire and former Sri Lanka all rounder Kumar Dharmasena will be the field umpire along with another experienced Sri Lanka umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge.
