Rs. 1.1 million was awarded to self-employed migrant workers in the Kantale area who returned to the country recently. The amount was given to them to upgrade their businesses.
A ceremony to grant this financial assistance was held at Kantale Divisional Secretariat last Sunday (10).
Fifty four individuals selected from the Trincomalee district on the recommendation of the Eastern Province office of the Foreign Employment Bureau will be provided with a non- refundable financial assistance of not less than Rs.25,000 each under this programme. This programme is initiated in line with government’s policy to assist and develop local products and thereby empowering the local entrepreneurs.
These financial grants are given for the returned migrant workers to upgrade the products, service places and also to purchase equipment on the supervision of the Foreign Employment Promotion and Market Diversification State Minister Piyankara Jayaratne.
