TMVP leader, four others acquitted

The Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Puligal Party (TMVP) leader and MP Sivanesadurai Chandrakanthan, former Eastern Provincial Council member Edwin Silva Krishnananthraja, Kanaganayagam alias Gajan Mama, Army officer M.Kaleel and former Army officer Mathusinghe alias Vinoth were acquitted from all charges by Batticaloa High Court Judge D.Soosaithasan who delivered the verdict when they were produced before the before him yesterday (13).

They were arrested for conspiring to assassinate former TNA MP Joseph Pararajasingham on 25 December 25, 2005 during the Christmas day mass at St, Mary’s Cathedral, Puliyantivu, Batticaloa.

The Attorney General’s Department submitted to court that they were not continuing with the case and the High Court Judge acquitted them. High security prevailed in the court premises when they were produced. Attorneys Rasika Balasooriya and Anil Silva appeared for Chandrakanthan and the suspects while the Attorney General’s Department prosecuted.
