Sri Dalada Maligawa rituals to continue

Daily Religious observances and other activities in the Temple of Tooth Relic in Kandy are continued as usual although several Police officers on duty had contracted COVID-19, Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela said.

He said that the daily Thevava rituals for the Sacred Tooth Relic are conducted by the Maha Sangha and the Temple of the Tooth Relic is open to the public as usual.

He further said that all the staff members of the Sri Dalada Maligawa have undergone rapid antigen testing and it was revealed that no one had contracted the virus.

"Although a group of Police officers had been infected with the virus, none of the staff members had been infected with COVID-19 and the temple premises had been completely disinfected," he said.

A total of 29 Police officers who were on duty had contracted the virus.

"All Police officers of the Sri Dalada Maligawa has been quarantined and 185 Police officers from the Kandy Police Division has been deployed to provide security to the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy," said Kandy SSP Sudath Masinghe.
