Ready to assist Govt in anti-COVID drive - Vajira

Former Minister and one time UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena yesterday said that those who tested positive and showing mild symptoms should be placed under self-quarantine. He said that these COVID-19 positive cases showing mild symptoms should be placed under self-quarantine without bringing them to the designated Quarantine Centres.

Addressing a press conference at Sirikotha yesterday, Abeywardena said that his party is ready to extend any assistance to the Government in its effort to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

“We are ready to share our expertise and experience in the COVID-19 mitigation effort of the government irrespective of our political differences,” he said.

Members of the Tri-Forces or Police do not bring persons to the treatment centres after they test positive for the virus in any other country. People in these countries want to get them tested for COVID-19. He said that COVID-19 positive patients who show serious symptoms of the disease can be admitted to the hospitals through an ambulance service. “The on call ambulance service should be further strengthened,” he said. “People are in fear of this pandemic and this fear psychosis has also led to an increase in the spread of the pandemic,” he said.
