Seventy thousand seven hundred and sixty-nine youth in the Batticaloa District are to be provided with lands for self-employment purposes, Batticaloa Government Agent K. Karunakaran said.
The decision was taken following a meeting held at the Batticaloa District Secretariat, yesterday. Additional Government Agent (Land) Navarubaranjani Mugunthan, as well as divisional secretaries and land officers were also present. Seventy-five thousand five hundred and ninety youth had submitted forms for the purpose.
The Government Agent further said that those selected would be interviewed by their respective divisional secretariats. The applicants selected consist of 12,820 from Manmunai North, 8,438 from Koralai Pattu North, 4,652 Eravur, 2,714 from Manmunai Pattu, 4,239 from Koralai Pattu West, 4,007 from Koralai Pattu South, 3,044 from Koralai Pattu, 3,516 from Koralai Pattu Central, 2,349 from Kattankudy, 4,631 from Poraitivu Pattu, 6,585 from Manmunai South-Eruvil Pattu, and 3,090 from Manmunai Southwest.
