Sajith was only interested in becoming UNP leader, alleges Rathnapriya

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa did not work for the UNP’s victory when he was in the UNP and whatever he did in the party was aimed at grabbing the party’s leadership, said former UNP Parliamentarian Saman Rathnapriya in Ratnapura on Wednesday.

Rathnapriya was addressing a group of UNP Local Government representatives at a hotel in Ketandola, Ratnapura on Wednesday.

The meeting was organised by former Nivithigala PS Chairman Ananda Rathnayake.

Rathnapriya said that Premadasa left the party because he failed to become the leader of the party. “A group of senior UNP members who defied the party leadership have already expressed their willingness to re-join the UNP,” he said. Rathnapriya said that a united force is a must for victory at the next election and division will only lead to defeat. He said that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga are likely to contest the next Presidential election. “The people have already felt the absence of our party leader in Parliament. The shortcomings among us need to be rectified if we actually want to tread on the path of victory,” Rathnapriya added.
