Samurdhi officers’ support essential for poverty alleviation - State Minister Semasinghe

We have ended the era during which the officials affiliated to the Samurdhi movement had been neglected. Under the guidance of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, we are confident that we would be able to restore the dignity and honour of Samurdhi officers who lost their identity during the last five years, Samurdhi, Household Economy, Micro Finance, Self-Employment and Business Development State Minister Shehan Semasinghe said.

He was addressing Anuradhapura District Samurdhi Development Officers at a two-day awareness programme conducted on the implementation techniques of livelihood empowerment projects for gaining maximum productivity. Appropriate ways to use the funds allocated by the 2021 Budget for the poverty alleviation programmes were also discussed. The seminar was held at the North Central Provincial Auditorium in Anuradhapura.

The State Minister pointed out that the President’s Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour (Saubhagye Dekma) Manifesto has supported the teamwork concept with a collective approach in order to minimise the wastage of public funds and time, corruptions, frauds and delay in development ventures.

“Under the “Saubhagye Dekma” Policy Manifesto of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, “Electricity for All” National Programme is being implemented and renewable energy sources are developed and exploited to supply to the national grid. As planned by the President, Power Minister Dullas Alahapperuma and Solar Power, Wind and Hydro Power Generation Projects Development State Minister Duminda Dissanayake have been endeavouring to fulfil the country’s entire electricity requirement by increasing the alternative power generation.

He said the Samurdhi State Ministry is working hard to embark on integrated livelihood empowerment programmes. It is the aim of the government to obtain the service of Samurdhi officials in every programme that is being implemented for the eradication of poverty and to elevate the standard of low-income group families.
