Vihanga a karateka par excellence

Vihanga Oshada Gallanga is an Advanced Level student of Dharmaraja College, Kandy who is one of the finest Karatekas produced by the College. He started Karate under the coaching of Saman Weerasinghe when he was 10 years old.

From 2016 onwards Vihanga started winning Gold Medals in tournament after tournament at the Karate Championship of Sri Lanka Karate Association. In the Year 2017 he won a Gold medal again at the 16th International S.K.A. Karate Championship. He was the winner of the Gold Medal in the Kandy District Karate Championship in the year 2018.

This was continued in the same year when Vihanga won a Gold medal in the Provincial Sports Meet Karate Competition conducted by the Department of Education, Central Province. In the year 2019 he won a Gold Medal at the 18th international S.K.A. Karate championship.

With all these victories Vihanga was selected to the National karate team in the year 2019 to represent Sri Lanka at the 4th South Asian Karate Championship held at the Sugathadasa Stadium and Vihanga won a Silver Medal at this Tournament. In 2018 he represented Sri Lanka at the 17th Asian Karate Championship held in Okinawa Japan from 11th to 13th of May without successs.

In the following year he represented Sri Lanka at the 5th South Asian Karate Championship held at Dhaka, Bangladesh from 7th to 9th November and he won a Bronze medal. Again he represented Sri Lanka at the 18th Karate Championship held in Malaysia and was ranked 21st in the World.

He was awarded a 2nd Dan in Goju Ryu Karate by the Board and Examination Committee of the KJF Europe.

Vihanga hopes to improve Karate by getting promoted to the highest rank and to continue till he is fit enough and to do his University Studies.
