State Minister for Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure Nimal Lanza said that 8,600 km of AB grade roads and 8,000 km of CD grade roads are to be developed before the end of next year.

State Minister Lanza expressed these views while inaugurating the rural road development work in the Ja-Ela electorate recently.

Accordingly, the development work of the Ja-Ela Suraweera Mawatha, Batagama Bandigoda Road and Idiminna De Finance Estate Roundabout was commenced. The estimated cost is Rs.55.1 million. The distance is 3 km.

"Steps have been taken to implement the Road Development Plan in accordance with the promise given by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Road development programmes have been implemented in every electorate in Sri Lanka. Another problem for the rural people is the difficulty in transporting their agricultural produce to the market, going to the hospital, developing the vine bridge for the children to go to school, the dilapidation of the foot bridges or the lack of it. As a solution to this, the Government has planned to provide 5,000 rural bridges and under this, it is planned to construct 1,000 bridges this year," State Minister Lanza said.

Member of Parliament Nalin Fernando, former Western Provincial Councilor Dilshan Jayawardena and Ja-Ela Mayor Shammika Dias were also present on the occasion.
