Right hand batsman and right arm leg-spinner Dineth Jayakody of St. Joseph’s College Colombo scored 884 runs with three centuries in the 2019/2020 season under the guidance of his coach Niroshan Bandarathilake. He scored three centuries against Wesley College Colombo, St. Anne’s College Kurunegala and their arch rivals St. Peters in the Battle of the Saints and three half centuries

Dineth Thamalka Jayakody also turned in fine all-round performances in the Inter School Cricket (Two day) tournaments in the under 13, 15 and 17 seasons conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association.

Dineth Thamalka Jayakody was born on 2nd February 2001 at Wattala. He attended Lyceum International School Wattala in 2006. He started school cricket under coaches Kasela Chamara and Lalith in 2011. He scored 215 runs in three matches with a century in the under 13 Inter International Schools tournament in 2013. He scored 136 runs against Belvoir International School Colombo in the same year. He was selected to the Sri Lanka under 13 national pool under veteran coach Sunil Fernando.

He joined St.Joseph’s College Colombo in 2014. He represented St. Joseph’s under 13 ‘A’ team under the guidance of Rev. Fr. Trevis Gabriel, the Rector, Rev. Fr. Milan, Bernard, former Prefect of Games, Sanjeewa Fernando, master in charge and junior head coach Anil Gunasinghe in 2014.

He represented the college under 13 ‘A’ team in only the second round matches. He made 190 runs in three matches including a century and a half century. He scored unbeaten 118 runs against St. Sylvesters College Kandy. Dineth played under 13 season under the coach Anil Gunasinghe.

He played two under 15 seasons in 2015 and 2016. He scored more than 250 runs with two fifties in 2015 He represented the Colombo District North team and Western Province North team in the Prima Champions Trophy under 15 inter district and inter provincial tournaments conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket in 2015 and 2016. He represented Colombo North team in 2015.

He attended CCC Cricket School under veteran coach Nelson Mendis. He scored more than 450 runs with four fifties in the under 15 schools cricket tournament. He represented Colombo North team and Western Province North team under the coaches Carman Mapatuna and Tharaka Gunaratne in 2016. He scored 160 runs with a fifty that season. He represented the school under 19 team as a fresher in the 2016/2017 season under the captaincy of Hareen Cooray

He played two under 17 seasons in 2017 and 2018 under Roger Wijesuriya, Senior head coach of SJC. He scored more than 350 runs with three half centuries in 2017.

He scored 360 runs with two half centuries and claimed 35 wickets in the same season with the top performance being a fifty and taking 5 wickets against Royal College Colombo. Dineth helped St. Joseph’s win the championship in 2018.

He scored 556 runs in 10 matches with three centuries in a row in the last season of under 17 in 2018. They were the champions of under 17 division one schools cricket tournament in 2018. He played for under 19 team and scored 970 runs with three centuries and four fifties. He scored 124 against Wesley College Colombo, 115 against Ananda College Colombo and 116 against St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa in the season.

He played under 19 provincial tournaments for Dambulla and Western Province North. He scored a fifty in the finals in the super provincial tournament. He was a member of Sri Lanka under 19 tour of Bangladesh in 2019. He played three big matches aggregating a score of 267 runs with an average of 66.75 scoring (55* and 77) two fifties and a century (122 in 2020). In the last Battle of the Saints he was adjudged best batsman and man of the match . He represented NCC under 23 team twice in the SLC Major 23 inter club tournaments. He scored two fifties (78 and 56 runs) in four matches in the last season of 2020/21 under Duminda Perera, coach of NCC.

He scored more than 2500 runs in four under 19 school cricket seasons with six centuries and 12 half centuries. His best batting performance was 131 runs against St. Anne’s Kurunegala in the 2019/20 season. He captured more than 50 wickets. He helped the school to win two under 19 titles and one under 17 title.
