Six years’ RI, Rs. 20,000 fine for killing wife

The accused of the Gokarella, Madahapola murder case was sentenced to six years’ RI and fined Rs. 20,000 by Kuurnegala High Court Judge Mapa Bandara yesterday.

The accused, Ganitha Devage Jayasiri of Gokarella, Madahapola, was charged with killing his wife, Pathiraja Mudiyanselage Nirmala Padmini, on December 24, 2016.

State Counsel Janith Tilakaratna requested Court that the accused must be given a severe punishment.

The Attorney General had filed the case.

The Defence Counsel told Court to minimise the sentence since the accused is a father of two children but it was dismissed.
