Savindhi Prashantha Samarakoon is a 16 year old Grade Eleven Student of Girls’ High School,Kandy who is an outstanding karateka and she is also a talented athlete

She started Karate when she was in Grade two Class under the coaching of Priyantha Gunasekera and in her first appearance at a Karate meet she won the Under 8 Girls Kata event and participated in the All Island Karate Championship and finished among the best eight in that event.

In the year 2014 she participated at the Central Province Kata and Kumite events and became champion and in the year 2015 she emerged champion at the Kata and Kumite events at the Karate competition held at the Sugathadasa Stadium. In the years 2016 and 2017 again she won the Kata and Kumite events and in 2018 she emerged champion at the Karate Meet held in Wennappuwa. In the year 2016 Savindhi received her Black Belt Dan I when she was in Grade 7 and her Karate style is Shito-ryu and her Karate Association is Karate Nobukawa Shito-ryu kai of Japan. Her trainers other than Priyantha are Rohitha Seneviratne and Krishan Gunasekera. Savindhi is a member of the Sri Lankan Karate National Pool and she participated at the fifth South Asian Karate championship in the year 2019 held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She won a Gold Medal in the Under 16 Kata event.

As an Athlete she competed in the Under 15, 4 x 50 Relay event at the All Island Relay Championship conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association and her team was successful and received merit certificates. Presently she is very much interested in Karate and she wants to get promoted to the highest rank in karate.

Sanindhi is very much grateful to her coaches and Principal of Girls’ High School, Malkanthi Abeygunasekera , POG Thanuja Gunasinghe, for the guidance and support given to her to become a talented Karateka. Her main ambition is to do her studies well and to continue to take part in karate and to become a Karate Instructress.
