Indian Deputy High Commissioner calls on MP Hakeem

Indian Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Vinod K. Jacob called on Parliamentarian Rauff Hakeem yesterday to discuss matters concerning the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as economic, financial and development cooperation opportunities.

MP Hakeem spoke about the issues faced by the Muslim community, as well as matters regarding the upcoming United Nations Human Rights Council Session that is scheduled to begin later this month.

Deputy High Commissioner Jacob recalled the conversations between the Indian and Sri Lankan leaderships since November, 2019. During the Virtual Bilateral Summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in September, 2020, the latter had expressed the confidence that Sri Lanka will work towards realising the expectations of all ethnic groups.

The Deputy High Commissioner also reiterated India’s longstanding position on meaningful devolution through the implementation of the 13th Amendment.
