The carcass of a wild elephant was found near a prawn farm in Kavathamunai, Valaichcheanai, on Tuesday. The cause of death was determined as electrocution after Ampara Veterinary Surgeon H.N.A. Suranjeeth conducted a postmortem.
Officials suspect that the pachyderm had attempted to enter the prawn farm and had been electrocuted in the process. Valaichchenai Police and the Kiran Wildlife Conservation Department are conducting inquiries.
