UNHRC oblivious to grave HR violations elsewhere – SB

While the COVID-19 pandemic is looming in every corner and 1.7 billion are losing their occupations, the UNHRC is baselessly raising allegations against Sri Lanka, MP S.B Dissanayake said.

“The LTTE Diaspora and pro-LTTE Tamil political organizations are working hard to take our government to the International Criminal Court (ICC). Last year the chairman was a representative of Saudi Arabia. Crimes that are happening in Yemen are not considered by the UNHRC which is a hilarious fact,” MP Dissanayake said.

While addressing a press briefing he said that all four corners of the country are functioning smoothly despite nationalities and religions while facing the COVID-19 pandemic in a successful manner. “Sri Lanka cannot be a cat’s-paw of Western countries”, MP Dissanayake said.

“Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa reconciled this country and our citizens in the North wear happy faces when compared to the early times. Three universities in the North and East are functioning with emerging technologies, water and electricity which was a dream back then,” he added.

He further said that Sri Lanka does not have any human rights issue and UNHRC has not taken any action against the worst war criminals in the world.

MP Jagath Kumar also speaking at the press briefing said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the government provided 100,000 jobs for low income youths and to 60,000 graduates and road development projects and expressway development initiatives were also taken by the government.

And also said that ‘Gama Samaga Pilisandarak’ (Conversation with the Village) is a great initiative taken by the President to look into the needs of citizens in remote areas.
