Schools Cricket to resume from next month

The Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) confirmed that they would conduct the Inter-Schools Under-19 Cricket Tournament from March this year.

The tournament will be conducted under a new playing format (50- over One-Day) instead of the regular two-day format.

Meanwhile, the SLSCA Tournament Committee is awaiting the necessary approval from the Ministry of Education to pursue with the tournament as scheduled.

The tournament will commence from March 15 and is scheduled to be concluded by the end of April.

With the completion of the GCE Ordinary Level Examination by March 13, the league stage will commence with five matches per team which has to be completed by April 10.

After the completion of the league stage, the knock-out stage will commence immediately.

The quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final will be worked off on April 20, 25 and 30 respectively.

All matches will be played at the respective school grounds on a common understanding between the two teams while all matches will be played at neutral venues from the quarter-finals stage onwards.

The Division One and the Division Two Tournament will consist of 36 schools where each group will be divided into two Tiers, one and two.

Meanwhile, the Division Three Tournament will consist of two levels, one and two. The Level-1 will accommodate 57 teams slated in 10 groups.

The top two teams at the end of the league stage, depending on the outcome of the points table, will qualify for the knock-out final round stage, which will be followed by the semifinals and the finals.
