Northern Province education will be uplifted – Education Minister

Priorities will be identified and practical solutions will be brought to uplift education in the Northern Province, Education Minister Prof. GL Peiris said.

The Minister said that a significant role must be played under the Government's intervention to uplift school education in the Northern Province and steps will be taken to identify priorities and the needs that can be met practically and implement them expeditiously.

The Minister then visited the Sri Nagapoosani Amman Kovil in Nagadeepa yesterday.

The Minister expressed his gratitude to the Nayaka Thera, who has been in charge of the Nagadeepa Temple for 45 years and highlighted the need to work together for a common goal without any political differences to improve the health, education and economy of the people in North.

During a visit to the Bishop of Jaffna, it was identified that the people of the area have three primary needs - education, agriculture and fisheries and the Minister said that those will be uplifted.

The Minister said that during the visit he met all the education authorities in the Jaffna District. He said that steps should be taken to expand the coordination between schools in the North and the South.

The Minister visited the Nagaviharaya, Nagadeepa Viharaya, Sri Nagapooshani College, Sri Ganesha Junior College and Nainativu Maha Vidyalaya.

A group of senior officials including Additional Secretaries to the Ministry was present.
