Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure State Minister Nimal Lanza said that the Government will vaccinate those who have been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) in the next three to four months.

He was addressing the Wattala Women's Conference on February 6 under the theme Siw Dhesa Sureki Siw Wasara of the Sri Lanka People's Front.

“We must open the country, protect ourselves from the virus and carry on our daily activities. The COVID will be here for another three years according to health experts. Therefore, without opening up the country, the economy will completely collapse. The country will be in a huge debt trap. That is why we have to open the country and find ways to live with the virus,” he said.

He said that the budget states a number of proposals to uplift the economy of the rural people and empower women as entrepreneurs through a people centered programme. “The Government is working to make the "Vision of Prosperity" programme a reality in the next four years. Therefore, despite the COVID influence, development activities should be carried out islandwide,” he said.

“The Opposition insulted women by saying that prostitutes were brought in when Ukrainian tourists arrive in the country. It is not good to disrespect women. The Opposition said that the war could not be ended. The war is over now. They said the Government could not control the virus. But it was controlled. Even though our country is small, it has come to the 10th place in the world that successfully controlled the virus,” the State Minister said.

Prof. Ranjith Bandara, Parliamentarians Kokila Harshani Gunawardena, Diana Gamage, Keshala Jayawardena, National Savings Bank Chairperson Beatrice Dissanayake, Women's Bureau Chairperson Kumuduni Gunasekera, Spices and Allied Products Corporation Chairperson Ashoka Lankathilake, and Sri Lanka People's Front Beauty Association President Priyanka Jayasekara were present.
