SP COVID cases reach 3,060

The number of COVID cases in the Southern Province has increased to 3,060 with the 48 COVID cases that were reported yesterday, Southern Province COVID Information Coordinating Office Coordinating Officer Chamara Mahagamage said.

With yesterday’s 13 cases, the Galle District reported 1,604 - one from the Baddegama Medical Officer’s Health Division, six from Balapitiya, five from the Galle Municipal Council area and one from Imaduwa.

Twenty four cases were reported from the Matara District yesterday - five from the Dickwella Medical Officer’s Health Division, one from Hakmana, two from Kirinda, Puhulwella and 16 from Weligama.

Eleven cases have been reported from the Hambantota District yesterday - eight from the Ambalantota Medical Officer’s Health Division and 11 from the Weeraketiya Medical Officer’s Health Division. So far, 340 cases have been reported from the District.

Of the 3,060 COVID patients from the Southern Province, 1,907 were discharged. The Galle District recorded 1,058 recoveries, 648 from Matara and 201 from the Hambantota District.

About 7,424 persons belonging to 3,146 families in the Southern Province are on quarantine at their residences. The Galle District reports 3,154 persons from 1,639 families on self-quarantine - 3,461 of 993 families in the Matara District and 809 persons from 514 families in the Hambantota District.

Meanwhile, PCR tests have been conducted on 88,331 persons in the Southern Province.
