A member of the Baddegama Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) has been arrested for assaulting two persons, including an Electrical Superintendent, Waduramba Police said.
A high voltage power supply scheme from Waduramba to Polgahawila in the Baddegama electorate has commenced and the PS member has opposed the installation of a high voltage pole near his house. He had threatened the Galle District Electrical Superintendent over issue.
Thereafter he had assaulted the Electrical Superintendent when he came to install the electricity pole on Saturday. Villagers had requested the member not to obstruct the power project. Nevertheless, the PS member had assaulted two persons who came to install the pole, police said.
The local politician had opposed the project claiming that he cannot operate his computer as the high voltage could interrupt its function.
The member was arrested later. Investigations are continuing.
