Musical treat for everyone

It was all about memories and melodies at the recently held ‘Star Lanka Musical Parade-Volume 1’ CD launch held at the Breeze Bar, Cinnamon Grand Colombo, arranged by the singing sensation Rajeev Sebastian.

He was able to give retro lovers another musical treat as he launched his new CD, and the evening took a delightful turn as it was star studded with veterans such as Annelsey Malewana, Indrani Perera, Sohan Weerasinghe, Luke Henriques , and other veteran artistes f yesteryear . Representing the younger generation, Yohani De Silva and Falan Andrea graced the event. Rajeev also spoke about the various artistes whom he worked with throughout years and did not forget to appreciate them for their valuable support. He also recalled that each of his songs were recorded under the guidance and advice of Mr. Vernon Perera and other veteran music producers.

He spoke of how he predicted that Falan Andrea might be the next ‘Dream Star’ and appreciated her for being respectful towards her veterans and contributing with vocals in the CD. The CD includes vocal performances by key musicians such as Desmond DeSilva, Sunil Perera, Annesley Malewana, and the younger artistes representing Yohani De Silva. The CD basically includes 12 songs, produced and arranged by Rajeev himself. Some of them are, ‘Mama Hemadamath’, ‘Parangi Landesi’, ‘Nadungamuwe Ath Raja’, ‘Hitha Heerunu’ and ‘Hasaralla Ba Gawa’ etc .

The release is assisted by Ernest Soyza , Hemapala Perera, Chandral Fonseka, Mahindaa Bandara and others. The CD is a collaboration of many veteran artistes and is sure to take the audiences to the next level of Sinhala Retro and pop music. Each of the participants got a copy of the CD from veteran artiste Indrani Perera , including his band members (Rajeev and the clan) . Rajeev showed gratitude by presenting copies of his CD to each of them and appreciating them for their guidance. and his this was a special momentum for Rajeev to celebrate a milestone of being 30 years in the industry, entertaining the Sri Lankan audiences. Up to now, Hhis most respected musician who had inspired him always is none other than the legendary Clarence Wijewardene .

During his speech, Rajeev recalled how he first entered the music industry, and encouraged youngsters and wanted them to enhance their talents. Rajeev mentioned the golden age of Sinhala pop came out with band music. In general, he thanked all those who helped him throughout his musical career, and appreciated them for their continuous support.

He fondly spoke of the duo who contributed a great deal to take Sinhala pop forward, thus referring to the veteran singing duo Annesley Malewana and Indrani Perera.

It was a memorable moment with all the key musicians gathered together, both belonging to the older and younger generations. It was indeed an evening filled with good memories, fun moments and friendship. Rajeev invites his fans to enjoy a refreshing mix of Sinhala Retro / Pop music through the ‘Star Lanka Hit Parade’. - SP
