Police urge to avoid organizing Valentine's Day parties, events

The Police has decided to take action against those who plan to organize or attend parties on Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2021). Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that, organizing Valentine’s Day events and parties is strictly prohibited and cannot be held without the prior approval of local health authorities. He further said that, special police teams have been deployed to monitor such events. He said that they have received information on various people and institutions planning parties and public events on social media for Valentine’s Day.

Police issued a stern warning against those who plan to organise or attend parties on Valentine’s Day, Sunday February 14.

Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said that police have information of unauthorised parties and events being organized for Valentine’s Day via various social media platforms at hotels and resorts.

“Organising such events and parties is strictly prohibited,” he said adding that police teams will be deployed to make arrests on that day. Hotels, resorts and guest houses hosting such parties will be raided and the attendees, as well as the organisers and hosts, will be arrested and prosecuted as per the provisions of the law,” he said.

“No one can conduct any event, party in respect of Valentine’s day and if they are going to have such events we will arrest and initiate legal action against the persons committing the offence of aiding and abetting in respect of such illegal activities,” he said. “We request youth not to attend these parties as it is an illegal activitiy.”
