Making research come alive!

A new Educational Research Center constructed in Delta Gamunupura Vidyalaya in Kothmale Divisional Secretariat was declared open by the Chairman of the National Institute of Fundamental Studies Professor Athula Sumathipala yesterday.

The project, a brainchild of the former principal Sarath Dayananda, was initiated with a selected group of students in the school. Today, it has been constructed as an Educational Research Center for the students with the cost of five lakhs by the old students of the school under the guidance of the present principal G G Kusmsiri. He said that research based education will support students to think innovatively by moving away from traditional learning.

The guest, Professor Athula Sumathipala, said the Government has taken many steps to modernize the education system of the country and research based learning will contribute to change the way of children’s’ thinking. The center has a few computers and some of them are donated by The British Council.

Students were awarded for presenting their research and a magazine named ‘Vidakshi’ was also launched at the event. Some lecturers of Peradeniya University and Open University and some officers of National Science Foundation, the former principal of the school, Sarath Dayananda, the present principal G G Kusumsiri and other invitees were present.
