Government lauds Health, Defence authorities

The Government lauds Health and Defence authorities for their gallant battle against COVID-19.

Co-Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella appreciated the effort by the Health Ministry and the Tri-Forces to control the virus, at the weekly Cabinet media briefing yesterday at the Government Information Department,.

“Unfortunately, certain groups are attempting to take political advantages by slinging mud at the Government saying that we failed in controlling the COVID-19,.” he said.

The Minister said that earlier the country had only the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (IDH) for COVID-19 patients and the Health Ministry and the Defense Ministry have so far set up 42 hospitals in this regard.

By February, 27 intermediate treatment centers have been set up and 3,118 COVID patients are receiving treatment at these centres. About 5,000 have been hospitalised so far, the Minister said.

When compared with other countries, the number of recoveries is remaining at a laudable level in Sri Lanka. Therefore, it is unfair to blame the health sector, he said.

The Minister said that around 11,447 beds have been allocated for COVID-19 cases along with nine Intensive Care Units (ICUs) so far, the Minister said.
