Flights between India and Sri Lanka will resume soon in accordance with strict health guidelines, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

He said that attention has been paid to implement flight operations between two countries on an air bubble concept.

Accordingly, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka has submitted the relevant proposals to the Tourism Ministry as well as the Foreign Ministry in Sri Lanka.

Minister Ranatunga said the two countries have paid attention to recommencing flight operations adhering to health guidelines imposed by Sri Lankan health authorities and the Indian Home Affairs Ministry.

“The Indian Home Affairs Ministry has formulated the guidelines on the air passengers who come to India and leave India and if Sri Lanka’s proposals tally with these guidelines, the Indian Government is ready to facilitate air travel between the two countries,” Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka has informed the Sri Lankan Government.

Minister Ranatunga expects to discuss this matter with the health authorities and members of the National Action Committee on Preventing the spread of COVID-19.

Around 1,682 tourists have visited Sri Lanka in January and most of them are from Ukraine, Belarus and China.
