Clinical Study reports of three more COVID-19 vaccines awaited - State Minister

Clinical Study reports of three more COVID-19 vaccines are yet to be received and if those vaccines are found to be safe, the authorities will take necessary measures to import those vaccines, State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana stated.

Prof Jayasumana made this observation at the launch of the new website of the State Ministry of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control held yesterday at the State Ministry.

The State Minister further said that certain groups questioned the reason for not granting permissions to import other COVID 19 vaccines. There are some countries, especially some African countries which do not possess a strict regulatory mechanism, that grant approval for the vaccines soon after receiving an email.

But as a country which maintains a high quality primary healthcare service, we cannot grant permission to import a vaccine in such a manner. Sri Lanka possesses a strict medical regulatory mechanism, he said.

State Minister of Indigenous Medicine Promotion , Rural and Ayurveda Hospitals Development and Community Health Sisira Jayakody, Secretary to the Ministry of Health Major General Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and Covid Disease Control Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena were also present.
