Karate Black Belt Holder, Kumite and Kata Gold Medalist 15 year old Uthpala Kavindi Chandrapala brought honour and fame to her Alma Mater Sandalankawa Central College. Uthpala’s first school was Napokuna Junior School Giriulla and she entered that school in 2010 and during that period the Principal was Chinthaka Ratnasuriya and her first class teacher was Miss. Ruwini and from there she shifted to Sandalankawa Central in 2015 and during this period she did not take an interest in sports activities and her parents Madhawa Rukshan Chandrapala and Anusha Shiromi admitted their daughter to Karate ISKU Academy and she came under coach Sugath Kumara at the age of eight years. In 2013 as an under eight competitor she participated at the Japan Gimaha Shotokan Karate Championship and won a Bronze Medal. In the same year taking part in the under nine age group at the All Ceylon Keiiyu Kai Karate Federation Championship she won a Silver in Kumite and again in the same year participating at the UKF International Meet she won a Gold for Kumite and a Gold in Kata and in the All Island Gimaha Kata Championship she got a Silver Medal In 2018 as an under 15 competitor she won a Gold for Kumite and a Silver for Kata at the First Champions Trophy Karate Championship and at the 6th Kurunegala District under 13 Karate Championship she got a Gold Medal. Taking part in the North Western Karate Championship she won a Gold in Kumite and at the 5th Open International Semi Contact Shotokan Karate Championship she won a Bronze in Kumite. In 2019 as an under 15 competitor she won Golds for Kumite and Kata and at the Gaeteno Pisano Open International Tournament she carried away the Gold for Kumite and a Silver for Kata.

Same year as an under 15 player she won a Silver at the Sri Lanka Karate Friends Federation Open Meet and at the 28th North Western School Games she grabbed a Silver in Kumite. In 2018 taking part in the All Island Ministry of Education Meet she collected a Bronze in Kumite in the under 15 age category.
