A harvest festival was held in Tiruperundurai, Batticaloa on Saturday for the first time in the history of the country.

Under the guidance of the President, inmates of the Batticaloa Prison are cultivating various crops on 23 acres in the prison owned Tiruperundurai Open Farm and the harvest ceremony was held on 10 acres.

The harvest ceremony was officially inaugurated yesterday.

The event was attended by a large number of prison officials, including Batticaloa Prison Chief Jailor Mohanraj.

Batticaloa Prison Superintendent Sujith Vijaya Sekara said that with the permission of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, more crops will be grown at the Tiruperundurai farm and thanked everyone who supported the effort.
