Courts will be modernised and streamlined - Minister

Justice Minister Ali Sabry PC who inspected courts in Tissamaharama, Hambantota and Tangalle said the government has initiated a programme which will see the rapid development of infrastructure and reforms within the judiciary. This he said should directly contribute to decreasing delays and for cases to be heard expeditiously by all courts.

The digitisation of the court system in 42 courts have begun and will be conducted in four phases. The Justice Minister was accompanied by Irrigation, Disaster Management and Internal Security Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, during his visit to the Hambantota courts complex. Addressing a meeting with the lawyers, he told them that the views of the Bar Association must also be sought when carrying out development activities and that a committee had been appointed to look into reforms and amendments of existing laws. He invited the lawyers to present their proposals.

He also said that steps would be taken to streamline the work of the Government Analyst's Department and that regional offices will be established.
