Sandagomi of Pushpadana Balika excels in Taekwondo

.Sandagomi Muhandiram started her school career at Ananda Vidyalaya, Elpitiya from Grade one and her parents being teachers in the Government Sector Sandagomi was admitted to the Galagedara Junior School in grade four and after passing the Grade five scholarship exam she entered Pushpadana Balika Vidyalaya,Kandy.

At Pushpadana she took part in athletics and at primary level she did 75 metres. and 50 metres. races. Sandagomi took a keen interest in the game of Teakwondo which is the National Game of South Korea and Sandagomi took part in Taekwondo under the coaching of Hashini Chapa of the school when she was in the Grade.8 Class.Her first contest was the All Island Taekwondo competition held at Sri Sumangala Hall, Panadura and she won a Bronze Medal competing in the 59 to– 62 Kg. Light Weight Class. In the year 2017 she showed her class by winning a Gold Medal in the Light Weight Class at the All Island Taekwondo Meet held at the Sumana Balika Vidyalaya, Ratnapura. She repeated the same outstanding performance to win a Gold Medal at the All Island Schools Meet held at the same venue competing in the Light Weight category.

In the year 2018 she was able to win only a Bronze Medal at the National Youth Festival held at the Galagedara Recreation Hall and again at the All Island Schools Taekwondo Championship held at the Galagedara Sports Complex. Sandagomi did well to win a Gold Medal at the Provincial Taekwondo Tournament held at the Pushpadana Balika School Hall in 2018 competing in the Light Weight class.

In the year 2019 she contested in three important Taekwondo contests and repeated her skills by winning a Silver Medal at the All Island Contest in the Light Weight class which was held at Kegalle Sports Complex. At the All Island Schools Taekwondo Contest held at Sumana Balika School Hall she was placed third and won a Bronze Medal and she won a Gold Medal at the Pushpadana Balika Vidyalaya Hall. She received the First Runner-up Trophy for the Best Sportswoman at the Colours Night of the School.Sandagomi is a bright student awaiting results at the G.C.E.(A/L) examination in the Science Stream and her ambition is to become a doctor while continuing the game of Taekwondo. . She is thankful to her Coaches Hashini Chapa, Jeseer Mohamed, Manoj Ratnaweera and Manoj Deniyage and the Teacher-in-charge Thilani Jayaratne, .
