Thomian Masters clinch Ranil Abeynaike Trophy

Thomian Masters got the better of Lanka Cavaliers Masters , beating them by seven wickets with five overs to spare to clinch the Ranil Abeynaike Memorial Trophy which was played at the S.Thomas College Mount Lavinia, big club grounds.

Late Ranil Abeynaike, who captained the Thomian team in 1973 and was adjudged the “ All Island best bowler” ” was a fine cricketer who represented Sri Lanka and later turned out to be an International cricket commentator and the Thomians can be proud of this legend.

Deepal Ahangama, came forward to donate this trophy as a token of appreciation on behalf of his college mate. Also Deepal, had the distinction of captaining Thomian Masters in this inaugural encounter.

Johann Pieris who had the honour of captaining the 100th Battle of Blues scored a quick fire 36 and Vajira Wijegunawardena a fine knock of 67 runs opened batting with Naresh Adikaram who scored 32. Ishak Shahabdeen who claimed four scalps and Nalin Jayathilaka with three victims behind the stumps gave Thomian Masters. this victory
