Luca Knese secures Men’s title at Colombo Open

Luca Knese clinched the Men’s Open Singles title at the Colombo Open Tennis Tournament when he defeated Vibuda Wijebandara in the final played at the SLTA Courts in Green Path yesterday.

However, Luca was somewhat fortunate to win the title as his opponent was forced to retire with an injury during the third and deciding set.

Luca won the first set 6-3 before Vibuda bounced back into recognition and claimed the second set 6-2 in style.

But moments after the start of the third set, Vibuda was forced to concede the final and the game to his opponent with an injury.

Earlier, sisters Anika and Alana Seneviratne continued their excellent form as they defeated Janali Manamperi and Savini Jayasuriya 6-3, 6-0 in the Women’s Open Doubles final.

The tournament will be continued today with the Boys’ and Girls’ junior events.

Girls’ Under-12 Singles (final): Arushi Thomas beat Brinda Fernando 6-2, 6-1.

Women’s Doubles (final): Anika Seneviratne and Alana Seneviratne beat Janali Manamperi and Savini Jayasuriya 6-3, 6-0.

Men's Singles (final): Luca Knese beat Vibuda Wijebandara 6-3, 2-6 and retired - (A.N.)
