Sri Lankan all-rounder Dhananjaya Lakshan said that he was able to gain a huge amount of experience playing in the Abu Dhabi T10 League Franchise Cricket Tournament, which concluded in the UAE recently.

The 22-year-old former captain of Richmond College had the honour of representing the champion Northern Warriors Team, which defeated Delhi Bulls in the final encounter.

“Actually, T10 cricket is a new experience. It’s hard to make a game plan to specific batsman as we have only 10 overs and one bowler can bowl a maximum of two overs.”

“Bowlers are always under pressure at all times. In this shortest format we have to use our skills wisely as the batsmen will try to attack you throughout the match.”

“I had the chance to bowl the final over in few matches. In T10 format the entire match is played similar to the death overs of a T20 match.”

“The bowlers have to hold their nerve and bowl according to the match situation. We can’t predict the outcome of an over like in other formats and this was a very good experience.”

“This is my first experience in playing in a foreign league tournament but I am very satisfied to be a member of the champion team.”

“I had the chance to play in seven matches during this tournament but batted only once against Delhi Bulls in a league round match and scored an unbeaten nine runs.”

“However, I had a chance to bowl in six matches including the final. We had some experienced bowlers like Wahab Riyaz and Wayne Panell and both gave me good tips to build up my bowling career.”

“I always believe that bowlers should be able to find a way to bounce back in tough situations and a bowler can be a match winner if the skills are properly executed,” added Lakshan.
