Thenuka Bandara Navaratne is a Grade Eleven student of St.Sylvester’s College, Kandy and he is one of the finest gymnasts in the Central Province at school level. He was coached by Amal Rasanga, the International Level one Coach and Thenuka started gymnastic at the tender age of eight years and was placed first in Floor Exercise and second in vault exercise. In the Under 10 age group he won the Vault event and became one of the Best eight gymnasts and he came first in vault and second in Floor event at the Kandy District Meet. Thenuka repeated his performance in the year 2018 to become first in Vault, Pommel Horse and Parallel Bar and Rings at the Provincial Gymnastic Meet.

The year 2019 was also a successful year for Thenuka when he participated at the District Level Gymanstic Meet and won the Pommel Horse and became second in Floor, Horizontal Bar , Parallel Bar and became third in Vault Exercise. In 2020 again he showed his class at District Level when he won the first place in Pommel Horse, Parallel bar and Floor Exercise and came third in Vault,Rings and Horizontal bar in his age group. When he contested at the All Island Gymnastics Meet from 2014 itself he won the Sri Lanka Schools Junior Meet in floor event and in the same year in the same meet he became first in floor and second in Parallel Bar at the Under 12 age group and in 2019 he came second in Parallel bar and third in Floor Exercise.

At the Junior National Gymnastic Tournament in 2016 he won rings and second in Parallel Bar in Under 14 age category. In 2017 he won the third place in Parallel Bar and Pommel Horse , became second in Rings and third in Vault and Floor at the Junior National Meet. He went on to win Floor, Parallel Bar, Pommel and Vault at the first Invitation Sonny International Gymnastic Championship held in Philippines in the year 2016. He attended a common Training Camp for Men’s Artistic Gymnastics in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 21st to 25th July,2018.

Thenuka’s intention is to represent Sri Lanka in gymnastics at International Meets and bring fame to his country and he is thankful to his coach Amal Rasanga for his dedication to bring him up to the International Standard in gymnastics.
