Defenders-Renown clash should be a thriller

Two important matches of the Pre-League Football Tournament conducted by Football Sri Lanka (FSL) will be worked off at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo today, commencing at 5.00 p.m.

Defenders SC will take on Renown SC in the first match while Blue Eagles SC will take on Colombo FC in the second match at 8.00 p.m.

Defenders SC will be led by Suraj Bernard and they will have the services of three top National players who have crossed over from other clubs.

Mohamed Rifkan, who earlier represented Police SC, Nuwan Gimhana (former Saunders SC) and Nissanka Dilhara (former Ratnam SC) are the three new players.

Defenders SC Coach, Bandara Warakagoda said that his players began training last month and they are shaping up well in preparation for this tournament.

Meanwhile, Dilip Suraj Peiris will lead Renown SC, which have been strengthened with the inclusion of three foreign players from Ghana and Nigeria.

They may be lacking in proper match practices but with a young and skillful outfit they are capable of turning tables on their opponents.

Colombo FC, after their recent triumph in the President’s Cup Tournament, will be brimming with confidence when they take on Blue Eagles SC in the second match of the day.

Colombo FC Coach Hassan Roomy said that they intend to experiment with the players in an attempt to build up the side for the more important Super League Tournament.

Blue Eagles SC will be led by D. K. Duminda and have regained the services of few players who were sidelined from their squad in the past.
