‘Bakalaya’ arrested for Boossa double murder

Kandage Sarath alias Bakalaya or Bakala Sarath (49), was arrested by Rathgama Police for a double murder in Rupeewala, Boossa, Galle.

Galle Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeewani Pathirana granted permission to the Rathgama Police to detain the suspect. A retired teacher and a mason were killed allegedly by the suspect along with another recently.

The body of 34-year-old Mihindukulasuriya Nuwan Chintaka, a resident of Maliduwa, Boossa was found near an abandoned house. He was a mason. The other victim, a retired teacher, was found dead at her house.

The suspect along with another had gone to the retired teacher’s land to pluck coconut on the day of the murder. He, however, had entered the teacher’s house to rob money along with his helper. Since the old teacher had identified the suspect, he had killed her, investigation revealed.

While the two suspects were coming back, the other victim, Nuwan Chintaka, had been sitting by the road. The two suspects had stabbed him over a rivalry in the past, police said.

The other suspect, a resident of Thelwatta, has not been arrested yet, police said. Rathgama police are investigating.
