Vege stalls in Sathosa outlets to sell below market prices

On the instructions of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, the government has initiated a new programme to provide the consumers with vegetables at concessionary prices.

This programme is implemented by the Finance Ministry in collaboration   with the District Secretaries and the Samurdhi Development Department.

The first phase of the programme has been launched at 75 CWE (Sathosa) premises in the Western Province. Of them, 26 new vegetable stalls have been installed in the Colombo District, 41 stalls in the Gampaha District and eight stalls in the Kalutara District.

Those stalls will provide consumers with vegetables such as carrot, leaks, beet-root, tomato, pumpkin, brinjal, green chili and cabbage at concessionary prices below the normal market prices.

In addition, the government has also facilitated the public to buy potatoes at a lower price while paying attention to giving the local potato farmers a reasonable price for their production.

The concessionary vegetable stalls will also be set up in other areas in the future, the Finance Ministry said.
