SLAF 70th anniversary to be held on March 2

Unveiling the official logo designed for the 70th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), Air Force Chief Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana stated that the SLAF will celebrate its anniversary on March 2.

A ‘Pichcha Mal Pooja’ will be held on March 1 at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya prior to that, he added.

In keeping with the longstanding Air Force customs, the celebrations will be held at the SLAF Base in Katunayake following the ‘Air Force Day Parade’. All other Air Force establishments will also join the event while following similar military customs.

Following ceremonial proceedings, the special commemorative cover and stamp will be launched as well, Air Marshal Pathirana said.

He added that in recognition of the exceptional services rendered to the nation, President’s Colours will be awarded to the No. 5 Fighter Squadron and the No. 6 Helicopter Squadron on March 5 at the SLAF Base.

The annual Air Force Cycle Race will be held on March 7 for the 22nd consecutive year, and the Air Force Commander’s Rugby Cup will be held on March 20, 21, 26, and 27, the Air Marshal added.
