Electricity to every household

The government aims to provide electricity to every household. To achieve this the government plans to establish new power stations.

Minister of Power and Energy Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said “We aim to provide electricity to every household in the country.”

He made these remarks at the annual `Innovation Awards’ Ceremony, organized by the Ceylon Electricity Board. The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) during the past weeks received accolades for its achievements to improve the electricity supply in the country by establishing new power stations.

Electricity has become a part of our life and therefore the sacrifice made by (CEB) Employees to prosper the day to day life of people and the on-going development activities in the country should be commendable.

Alahapperuma also thanked CEB officials to organize such awards ceremonies for its employees every year, since this nature of events will undoubtedly encourage the employees to introduce many more innovative ideas to prosper the country’s electricity sector further.

The Minister also mentioned that he was very happy to witness both male engineers as well female engineers in the same CEB receiving awards at this Awards ceremony on one stage at a moment when another section in our society was seeking Court judgment against the appointment of a female Police officer to a higher rank.

Mentioning innovations, the Minister said no country in the world can seek future developments and go forward without introducing innovations and thanked the CEB management for giving proper places to its employees by organizing such awards ceremonies and said the CEB should get the strength to organize such events in the years to come.

CEB officials including Chairman Eng. Vijitha Herath, General Manager Eng. Kumudini Herath and Additional General Manager Dr Rohantha Abesekara were also present.

Making the Welcome speech Eng. Dr Abesekara highlighted the history of CEB and said that presenting Innovation awards to CEB employees commenced from the year 2012 with the sole objective of encouraging its employees who innovated and introduced various equipment and services for the future betterment of the country and its people.
