Shazna contests UK LC Elections

Uva Governor A.J.M. Muzammil’s daughter Shazna Muzamil is contesting the 2021 Milton Keynes Local Council Elections in the UK.

She has been nominated by the Conservative Party.

She will be representing the Ward of Bletchley East, which covers Denbigh East, Fenny Stratford, Water Eaton, Lakes Estate and Newton Leys. The election is set for May 6.

She has obtained an MSc in Development Management from the Open University in the UK and an MBA from the Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Shazna, whilst working for The Open University, is a community champion and volunteer for various organisations including as an Appropriate Adult with the Milton Keynes Youth Offending Team and a mentor at the Children Heard and Seen, an organisation supporting children whose parents are in prison. She is also a Community COVID Champion, NHS Responder and volunteer vaccinator.

She believes that championing community causes is the best way to support and uplift the area, whilst engaging everyone in the community to take responsibility to keep their spaces clean and green. She will be looking at collaborative ways of helping small and large local businesses succeed beyond the pandemic.

She was a Board Member of the Women's Chamber of Industry and Commerce until 2018 and the Private Secretary to the Colombo Mayor and was actively supporting council agendas from 2011-2015. She was appointed Ambassador for Sri Lanka by the Women E Championed Women Empowerment Causes in SL - a UN affiliated organisation in the US.

She was Educated at Ladies College, Colombo 7.
