More development projects for Batticaloa

Backward Rural Areas Development and Promotion of Domestic Animal Husbandry and Minor Economic Crop Cultivation State Minister Sathasivam Viyalendran said that many development projects will be started in the Batticaloa District soon. He was speaking at a meeting at the Batticaloa District Secretariat on February 22.

The State Minister said that Rs. 100 million was allocated by the State Ministry to buy machinery to produced fertiliser in Hambantota, Kandy, Matale, Trincomalee, Ampara and Batticaloa. Rs. 27.5 million have been allocated for the Batticaloa District, he said.

The State Minister said that Rs. 50 million has been allocated to cultivate secondary crops in Batticaloa by the Agriculture Ministry and Rs. 100 million to grow turmeric and animal husbandry. Rs. 150 million has been allocated to construct warehouses and to produce fertilizer, he said. Project proposals will be submitted by the Divisional Secretaries, Planning Directors, the Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Departments, the State Minister said.
