Soldier, ex-soldier arrested in Horana in big narcotic racket

Investigations have revealed that the two soldiers who were arrested in Horana along with a stock of narcotics worth over Rs. 450 million had transported the narcotics from Doctorwatta, Nakanda and Weligama, according to the Narcotics Bureau.

The Police said that a 33-year-old watcher of the estate had been arrested for the incident.

Upon interrogation of the soldier and the ex-soldier who are held under detention orders, the Police Officers had gone to the estate and found several barrels of narcotics buried in the estate. The illegal drugs had been hidden in the estate by a group on the directives of notorious drug kingpin Ruwan Nadun Chinthaka alias Harak Kata, who is in hiding overseas.

Sniffer dog Ruki found the barrels of drugs at various locations in the estate. The Police said that this illegal racket had been operational over a long period.

The watcher of the Dostarawatte Estate is being interrogated, the Police said.

Police are investigating.
