Crudia Zeylanica to be conserved

Saplings of the endangered Crudia Zeylanica plant, which was recently found in Gampaha, Daaraluwa, will be grown and conserved in Botanic Gardens and various other suitable environments. According to The Department of National Botanic Gardens, 20 saplings are in conservation at the Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya, and six are in conservation at the Henarathgoda Botanical Garden, Gampaha.

Spoksman from The Department of National Botanic Gardens said the plant has been included in the IUCN Red List of threatened species.

In a report to the Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, the Director-General of the Department of National Botanic Gardens has mentioned that one large and small Crudia Zeylanica trees are in Daraluwa.

It has also mentioned The similar species has aldo been found in six other locations across the country.
