Third year player Medunaka Wijethilake to lead Vidyartha

Vidyartha College Kandy, this year are led by Medunaka Wijethilake, who is a third year player and who has a good knowledge of the game.

He is rated as a fine all-rounder. He scored heavily last season in the few games played and this time much is expected from him with the bat and ball.

If he can lead the side well, they are sure to excel in the rest of the matches.

Vidyartha started cricket in 1952 and has reached great heights in the sport with limited facilities for the game.

They have produced several top cricketers and some of their products have done their alma mater proud by excelling in school, club and district level.

This year the side is coached by the experienced Senaka Dissanayke, who has coached Dharmaraja College juniors and seniors from 2005 to 2017, Azhar College Akurana from 2018 to 2020. He has taken over as Head Coach of Vidyartha for the 2021 Cricket season. His willingness to support cricket at Vidyartha is much appreciated.

This year Vidyartha played a friendly one-day game against Dharmaraja and this time they in the Under-19 Division Two Tier ‘A’ Group ‘Z’.

The schools they will be meeting in the tournament are Rahula College Matara, St. John’s College Jaffna, Karandeniya Central College, Sri Dharmaloka College Kelaniya, Lyceum International School, Wattala and the Big Match against St. Sylvester’s College.

This year, they are having a talented and well-balanced side.
