The new political party called the ‘Sri Lanka Barathiya Janatha Party’ (SLBJP) has no connection with the Barathiya Janatha Party in India, SLBJP Chairman Welusami Muttusami said at a press conference yesterday.

Muttusami said that the party also has no ethnic or religious differences. He added that BJP in India is an extremist party, and that he does not wish to create such a party.

The party leader also said that if the word ‘Barathiya’ would become a problem when registering, the party’s name would be changed to the ‘Sri Lanka People’s Party’. He added that the party’s Policy Statement was launched in Jaffna recently.
