ETI finance directors released on bail

The former directors of ETI and Swarnamahal Jewellers were released on bail by Colombo Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage today. The four directors of ETI are Jeewaka Edirisinghe, Nalaka Edirisinghe, Asanka Edirisinghe and Deepa Edirisinghe were arrested on March 16. They were released on two sureties of Rs.1 million each. The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on suspects as well as the sureties.

The four directors of the failed finance company Edirisinghe Trust Investment (ETI) Finance Limited were released on bail by Colombo Fort Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage yesterday.

Jeewaka Edirisinghe, Nalaka Edirisinghe, Asanka Edirisinghe and Deepa Edirisinghe were released on bail and on two sureties of Rs.1 million each.

The Magistrate imposed a travel ban on suspects and the sureties. The suspects were further ordered to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) every Sunday of each month between 9 a.m and 12 p.m.

The four Edirisinghe siblings are facing charges of money laundering, criminal breach of trust and criminal misappropriation.

Jeevaka Edirisinghe, Nalaka Edirisinghe, Asanka Edirisinghe and Anjali Edirisinghe were arrested on March 16. President’s Counsel Anuja Premarathna appeared for the first, second and fourth suspects. Senior Counsel Asela Rekawa with Attorneys-at-Law Ramalingam Ranjan, Nirmal Kodithuwakku and Shehan Silva appeared for the third suspect. Senior State Counsel Lakmini Girihagama appeared for the Prosecution.

The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for June 2.
