Fifteen year old Bimandi Bandara, started schooling at Sussex College, Kegalle and entered Hillwood College after passing the grade five scholarship exam. She started playing table tennis when she was five years old as her brother was a TT player. Her first coach was Sampath Rajapakse and she became the Under 8 Champion at the Under 10 Girls event at the Kegalle District Novices TT Championship in 2011. She was the runner-up at the under 8 seventh Tilbhar All Island Novices TT Championship in 2011 and she started training under the School TT Coach Dharshana Pradeep.

She emerged champion when she was seven years old at the All Island Semi-Government and Private Schools TT Championship in 2012 and again she emerged champion in the Under 8 Girls event in the Sabaragamuwa Province TT Championship in 2012.Bimandi was coached by Buddhika Dikkumbura in the year 2013 and she became champion in the Under 10 girls TT event at the All Island Intermediate Novices TT Championship and from 2014 onwards she continued training under the coaching of Gayan Liyanage and became the champion in the Under 12 Girls event at the Butterfly All Island Novices TT Championship in 2015.

She was the champion of the Under 10 Girls All Island Ranking TT Tournament and thereafter Bimandi emerged champion in the Sabaragamuwa Province Open Ranking TT Championship as well as in the Under 10 Junior National TT Championship in the same year. By the end of 2015 she was placed No.1 in the under 10 Girls category in Sri Lanka and won the up and coming TT Player award at the Andro Sports Awards Ceremony in 2016. In the same year she got admitted to Hillwood College and her TT Coach was Chandima Abeyratne and currently her school coach is DMGS Kumara. She qualified to represent Sri Lanka as the No.1 TT Player at the Regional Hopes week of South Asia held in Pune,India in 2016 and she became the TT Champion in the Under 12,15 Open Women’s event and runners-up at the Under 18 Central Province TT Championship in 2017 and became the most outstanding player. Again in 2017 she emerged champion at the under 12 and 18 Mixed doubles at the Junior National TT Championship and was awarded colours at the School Colours award Ceremony, in 2018 and 2019 she was the Best player at the I & D and Tilbhar All Island TT Championship and also emerged champion at the Mayor’s Cup,Kandy.

In 2019 Bimandi represented Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth TT Championship held in Odisha,India and was placed eighth and played against so many International Women TT Players and represented the country at the Asian Games held in Yogyakarta,Indonesia in 2019. She qualified to represent SriLanka in the World TT Championship in 2020 and followed a one month course in India and was selected to represent Sri Lanka as the No.2 player in the 13th South Asian Games held in Kathmandu,Nepal.

Bimandi’s intention is to get a Gold Medal for her motherland in both Asian and South Asian Games and her long term target is to participate at the Olympics in table tennis and bring glory to Sri Lanka.
