Opposition should help Govt. fight extremist elements - Gamini Jayawickrama Perera

All Sri Lankan politicians despite their political ideologies or parties should stand with the present Government to face challenges against this country, said former Kurunegala District UNP Parliamentarian Gamini Jayawickrama Perera.

“This country does not belong to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa or Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. These two leaders are elected by the voters of this country only for a specific period of time,” he said.

However, the Opposition politicians should refrain from playing petty politics. They should criticise the Government in a constructive manner when required and not make baseless allegations.

“When certain international anti-Sri Lankan extremist elements work against our Motherland, it should be our prime duty and responsibility to stand as a nation in unity to protect this country from vicious, unjust and biased pressure of such evil forces,” he said

Jayawickrema Perera said despite political differences, all patriotic political forces of the Opposition have to come forward to fight the anti-Sri Lankan international forces.

“For that purpose only, the voters of this country have given the political power to politicians of the Opposition political parties and not to see Opposition politicians misleading the masses and criticizing of the present ruling party with sheer hatred and hypocrisy,” he said.
