Kandy Youth CC to conduct Twenty20 cricket tourney

KandyYouth CC has made arrangements to come out with a Twenty20 invitation cricket tournament, the winners will be awarded a trophy and the runners-up will also receivve a trophy There will be special awards for best bowler, batsman, fielder and all-rounder.

Bangladesh to play test in Kandy

Bangladesh will be playing a two-Test series in Sri Lanka. Both the matches will be played at the Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy. Bangladesh cricketers are expected to arrive in Sri Lanka on April 12. The first Test will be played from April 21 to 25 and the second will be played from April 29 to May 3.

Trinity inter house rugby on April 10

The Trinity College inter-house ten-a-side rugby tournament will take place on April 10 at Palleklle grounds from 10 a.m. onwards. It was in 2019 they came out after nearly a decade with the students-friendship inter-house senior rugby tournament. The houses which will take part are Central Boarding, Lamuel, Simitharatchy, Oorloff and Garrett.

Trinity start rugby practices

Trinity College has started rugby practices, and are blessed with some top players, who are sure to give their best if the tournament takes place Rugby was introduced to Trinity in 1906...the first ever schools encounter was played in year 1906 itself....Kingswood past and present versus the Trinity past and present which ended in a tie..Two years later both schools played again. Trinity can be called rightly as the ‘cradle of Sri Lanka rugby Rugby was introduced to Royal in 1916 and Trinity played Royal for the first time in 1920..

Cricket big match fever in Kandy

. All schools in Kandy are awaiting their big matches. The oldest big match in Kandy is”Battle of the Maroons” between Dharmaraja College and Kingswood College which is fixed for May 14 and 15 at Pallekele. This is the second oldest big match in the country; the first match was played in 1893, at the Bogambara grounds.

The second oldest big match in Kandy is between Trinity College and St. Anthony’s College,which will be played on 1st and 2nd of May and the venue will be Katugastotoa, . This Trinity–Antonian Cricket Encounter known as The Hill Country Battle of the Blues is one of the most looked forward matches of the hill country and has been played since 1914. This encounter is the sixth oldest Big Match in Sri Lanka. Out of the 102 games played, the Trinitians have won 23 with 11 ending in favour of theAntonians and 68 draws. Trinity College this year has played four games, out of which they have won three and lost one. St.Anthony’s College has played four games won two, lost one and one no decision.

The 62nd “Battle of the Babes” Big Match between St. Sylvester’s College and Vidyartha College will take place this time on May 7 and 8 at Pallekelle International Stadium. The winning tally of this series is in favour of the Sylvestrians with 14 wins to Vidyartha’s 3.The question is whether Vidyartha can break the 53-year-old hoodoo? They last won in 1967. This year both sides are experienced and well balanced,

Kandy’s Battle of the Golds between Wariyapola Sri Sumangala (St. Paul’s) College and Sri Rahula College, the 22nd time encounter will take place on April 24 and 25,at St. Anthony’s College grounds at Katugastota. This time in the tournament Sri Rahula College has played three games won two with one no decision. Sri Sumangala played four won two and lost two.

Kandy Hockey to come back

The Kandy District Hockey Association (KDHA) made all efforts to bring back the game to its former position. They were to have the league, knockouts, sevens and a six-a-side day and night domestic hockey fixture for both men and women, but it was halted due to Covid-19 pandemic. President of the KDHA, R.Mahewswaran and his able committee is concentrating on improving the quality of domestic tournaments which will help the players in a big way. . They are all-out to improve the game in all aspects.

Golf – between Old Trinitians and Royalists

The 5th Old boys of Trinity College and Royal College will come out with their golf tournament at Victoria Golf and Resorts today, for the G. C. Wickremesinghe Challenge Trophy.

Old Trinitians won the inaugural tourney in 2016 and and 2017 and in 2018 and 2019 Old Royalists won. According to news this time the Old Trinitians side will be led by Tharanga Gunasekera and the old Royalists by Samitha Perera.

The new presidentof the Kandy YMCA Ishan Wiratunga will organise a chess tournament over here in Kandy for schools and clubs.YMCA in the past have been giving the best for chess, This tournament is going to be a grand one. Kandy YMCA one of the oldest active chess clubs in Sri Lanka is all all-out to give a big hand for the game.
